The Board of Education and the Government should change the
size of a classroom in order to have a better education system. The government worries about other issues instead of fixing the issues that is most important. Students can not learn with a large ratio of 25 to 30 students to one teacher, who also have different learning abilities therefore the size of classes should be address and changed. Imagine a
ratio of 31 students to 1 teacher, in addition to that same teacher having four other classes. Mayor Bloomberg states, “I got in trouble every time I say this. But I would do anything to have better quality teachers, even if it meant bigger class size, even if it meant them standing rather than sitting. That’s what really makes a difference. That human being that looks the student in the eye adjusts the curriculum based on instinct what’s in the child’s interest.”(Ravitch) In other words his representative classroom is a class with 30 to 40 students, and the teacher should have the ability to teach all students and the students in the classroom should be interested and if not too bad. No, Bloomberg I am extremely interested in my classroom but I can't be with so many students in my classroom and Just one teacher. Mr. Mayor Have you ever teach 120 students or have you been a student of a teacher who teaches 120 students a day? No, you and the chancellor are in a office all day. Teachers can teach 120 students, but getting the lesson across the classroom is not a complete mission. A complete mission is when each and every classmate of mine comprehends and understands the lesson of the day. There is pandemonium in my classroom, not everyone is learning. Sara Mosle from the New York Times states “As
states cut education budgets in response to the nation’s continuing economic
woes, student-to-teacher ratios are again on the rise after decades of decline.
This resurrects an age-old debate in American education: does class size really
matter? (Mosle1). No it does not matter to the government, because if it did I would not
being dealing with pandemonium in my classroom. The reason why the society we live in has different type of social and economic dilemma is because the government does not directly involved in education. The government continues to worry about economic issues and tend to forget other important issues in society like education. An unidentified teacher in
Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women has to deal with
approximately 120 students a day, two different subjects economic and global
history. The board of education of New York City does not take the initiative
to change this dilemma before it becomes total chaos. My teacher cannot teach correctly because of the size of my
classroom. You have all types of students with different learning abilities. High quality education is the key to a great future in society. Students, Teachers, and Parents are suffering due to the fact that government is not being responsible to take action and fund for schools so that schools can have more teachers and less students in a classroom. Overall the government fails to rebuild education and refuses to make education first priority to better our society.
